MASSAGE THERAPY

What is Massage Therapy?
Massage therapy is a hands-on manipulation of the soft tissue of the body including muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints.  It provides non-invasive help to alleviate discomfort associated with day-to-day occupational stress, over-use of muscles and chronic pain.  Massage therapy is effective in relieving aches and pains, in reducing both physical and mental stress, and in treating various injuries and conditions that may affect your activities of daily living.  Massage therapy can also reduce the development of scar tissue and compensatory muscle patterning, if treatments begin soon after trauma or injury.

What to expect during your treatment
On your first visit, you will complete a confidential health history as part of your assessment. The therapist will need to know if you have any medical health concerns (i.e. diabetes, heart conditions) or if you are taking any medications.  With this information the therapist will perform a thorough assessment, by asking questions about your condition and completing a physical assessment.  These procedures will ensure that you receive a safe and effective treatment that will meet your individual needs. Your first and all subsequent massages will be conducted in a quiet, warm and relaxing environment. During the massage you are not required to remove your clothing, though removing some of your clothing will assist in the treatment, and you will be draped with a sheet and blanket.  The therapist will only undrape the area that she is working on, so you will not be completely exposed at any time.  Your treatment may include Swedish massage techniques, hydrotherapy, fascial techniques, trigger point therapy and aromatherapy.
